What's Actually Happening (The Science Part)

Shielded Ethernet cables are designed to keep electric fields and high-frequency noise off the wire — but the shield has to be connected to ground, or it just becomes a very expensive antenna. Most consumer devices don't provide that ground connection through their Ethernet ports, so the shield floats and the problem persists.

When a laptop is plugged into its charger and you're touching or sitting near it, high-frequency contact current travels through your body. It's been measured in the lab. Who Needs This

Your laptop is almost certainly ungrounded. When it's plugged into the wall charger and you're nearby — or worse, touching it — you're in the path of high-frequency current that your nervous system was never designed to handle. This adapter routes that to ground instead of through you.

How to Use It

Plug the included 1-foot shielded CAT6 cable into your device (laptop, printer, etc.), then into the grounding adapter. Plug the 11-foot grounding cord into a properly grounded outlet — and please actually verify it's grounded before trusting it (an outlet tester takes about 10 seconds and saves a lot of assumptions). Then run your longer Ethernet cable from the adapter to your router, switch, or wherever it needs to go. Fully bi-directional. Set it up however works for your space.

Think of it as a grounding rod for your internet connection. Because the internet is already stressful enough without adding 60Hz noise to the experience.
