Jovial Desk Lamp

Warm, sunlike light at your desk, in an all-metal, fully shielded lamp.

Most desk lamps are chosen for looks. The Jovial was built around two things that affect how you feel at your desk: the quality of the light, and the electric fields coming off the lamp itself.

Light that feels like daylight

Each Jovial ships with the GoldyLux 150W halogen bulb, which produces a gold light centered around 588 nm. That is the warm yellow tone of natural daylight, and research on 589 nm light has linked it to increased brain responsiveness in areas tied to alertness and focus (Chellappa et al., Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, 2013).

Alongside the gold tone, the bulb gives off generous red and near-infrared wavelengths, much like the sun does. The result is a warm, gently energizing light that many people describe as sitting next to a sunny window. It contains no UV.

Because the Jovial handles bulbs up to 150 watts, it delivers a level of brightness that typical 40–60W desk lamps can't reach. At that wattage, the bulb also runs without flicker.

Shielded from the plug to the shade

Any plugged-in lamp gives off electric fields, even when it's switched off. The human body is conductive, so sitting near an unshielded lamp can raise your body voltage throughout the day.

The Jovial is built differently. The body is entirely grounded metal with no plastic housing, and every internal wire is wrapped in grounded shielding. The cord is shielded as well. This keeps electric fields from radiating into your workspace, so you get bright light without the added electrical exposure.

Your choice of bulb

The GoldyLux bulb is included, but the Jovial also accepts any incandescent or halogen bulb up to 150W, or a healthy, low-flicker LED.

A note from us: the Jovial is meant for indoor hours, not as a replacement for real sunlight. Morning sun and regular outdoor breaks are still the best thing for your circadian rhythm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of light does the GoldyLux bulb produce?
The bulb uses a gold-tinted halogen design that produces a dominant 588 nm yellow wavelength. It also emits red light (600–700 nm) and near-infrared light (700–1100+ nm), similar to natural sunlight. We call this combination Gold Light Therapy™.

How long does the bulb last?
The GoldyLux is a double-envelope halogen, which means the halogen capsule sits inside a second glass layer that protects it from dust and skin oils. Typical life is 1,000–2,000 hours, and many bulbs last longer with normal use.

Can I buy a replacement bulb?
Yes. Replacement GoldyLux bulbs are $35. Email help@electrahealth.com and we'll ship one to you.

Does the lamp get hot?
Yes. A 150W halogen runs hot, similar to a heat lamp. Keep the front of the shade at least 8 inches from anything on your desk, and turn the lamp off when you leave the room.

How long can I use it each day?
The Jovial is designed for all-day use while you work. Leave it on as long as you're at your desk, and switch it off when you step away.

Should the light shine on my face, or should I use it as ambient light?
Either works. For direct warmth on your face, sit 12–15 inches away for 5–10 minutes. For general lighting, angle the arm overhead and let it light your workspace.

Is it safe for kids?
Yes, with a lower-wattage bulb. For children, swap in an incandescent bulb of 100W or less, or a healthy, low-flicker LED. The included 150W bulb is intended for adults because of its heat output.

Can I get a sunburn from it?
No. The GoldyLux bulb gives off no UV light.

Will it help me make vitamin D?
No. Your body needs UVB to make vitamin D, and this bulb intentionally produces none.
